08- Oct-09 - Results & Gallery updated and a message from Ivan.
Just a few items to keep you up to date.
Friday 16th October is the day of this years Island Inter-Club Competition. The venue is the Ronaldsway Social Club. As we were fortunate enough to win last year we are the hosts and will be providing a buffet. If you wish to partake in the buffet the cost is £5 and we need to know the numbers by this weekend so please email me by return.
The Inter-Club Competition this year will be judged by Norman Thompson who is the President of the Lancashire & Cheshire Photo Union. Norman will be visiting each club on the Island and will be coming to the Southern PS next Tuesday 13th October, he is going to give a talk about judging, among other things. It will be an interesting night and it would be nice to see good support from the club.
Last couple of items. We are well into the new season now and have a few tech nights coming up, rather than the committee coming up with ideas, if anyone has a subject they would like to discuss , for themselves or of interest to other club members then please email and let us know. We are also looking for ideas for the website.
And finally, the subs are due.

16-Sept-09 - Competition round up by Brian Goldie.
This first "pointed" competition of the season had a total number of 102 entries with the biggest entry in the digital division 2 competition which had a total of 42 entries from at least 14 different photographers, 4 of whom are newcomers. So this has all the makings of a very competitive season. The judge for this comp. was Tricia Craig from The Western Photographic Society who very kindly stepped in at the last minute, Tricia stated at the beginning that she was rather keen on motorcycle photos and local views, which was rather fortunate for we quite a number of bike shots and views entered in this comp. and also a fair share of animals thrown in for good measure. The print competitions had 12 entries in each division and it turned out to be a good day for the Goldie family with Thomas gaining a 1st, 3rd and 5th position and his grandad Mike gaining 2nd and 4th. The other places went to new boy Johnathan Latimer (fresh from his victory in the recent Mike Goldie trophy) gained 6th, 7th and 10th places and Shiela Bowers claimed 8th and 9th places with her as usually well presented prints. In the first division it was Brian Goldie who took 1st place as well as 4th and 6th, John Keelan claimed the 2nd and 8th positions with Seamus Whelan picking up 3rd, 5th and 7th and Dave Moores claiming the last two posititions 9th and 10th.
The arty comp had 13 entries and as always offers a sense of amusement and wonder. John Keelan took top honours in this comp with the 1st, 4th and 7th places, Brian Goldie was 2nd, 6th and 8th and 3rd place went to John O'Keefe. Lesley Cullen was 5th and Seamus claimed the 9th and 10th spots.
The big comp of the evening was the Digital Div 2 and the points were spread out with 6 different photographers claiming points. 1st was Anna Mayall, 2nd and 3rd was John O'Keefe, Lindsay Reid managed to score with all three of his entries, claiming 4th, 6th and 10th positions, Mike Goldie claimed the 5th and joint 8th positions, newcomer Steve Watson got the 7th position and fellow newcomer Johnathan claimed a joint 8th spot.
Digital Div1 had a good entry of 24 considering a few of the "big guns" were no shows in this comp. again the points were well spread with 7 different members gaining a place on the score board! John Keelan came out on top with his 1st place and our "American friend" Stephen Brammall claimed the 2nd position.3rd went to Jason Quayle and 4th to Seamus, "rising star" Jan Sellors gained a 5th and 8th position and Brian Goldie the 6th and 10th spots.Sue Clegg managed a good start to the season with a 7th and 9th placing, this despite her breaking every bit of equipment she owns... So well done to everyone who managed to gain some points, mention must also go to newcomers Sue Gowing and Henrietta Woolard who although never manged to gain any points showed that they were both very capable photographers and I'm sure it we will be seeing their names on the scoreboard in the future. Thanks again to the judge Tricia who obviously put a lot of time and energy into the judging and who provided a most entertaining evening. Check the gallery and scoreboards for the results
